3d printed model of Vegas Convention Center

Smallwood Lobby in Buckhead

Smallwood's Atlanta architectural firm needed 3 showpiece prints for their spanking new lobby in their Buckhead office in Georgia. They wanted to showcase 3 totally different projects that they had done in the past.
1. The Cay Building in Savannah
2. The Sovereign Condo Tower in Buckhead, GA.
3. Alpharetta City Center

White tough PLA was selected as the material because the models were to be displayed indoors and PLA creates the smoothest surface.  White models show the shadows with the most contrast. The buildings and trees were modeled separately by 2 members of Smallwood. Those parts were fitted into the site.  The size of the Alpharetta center was 23" square so the site was printed in three parts and glued together.  The seams were hidden as much as possible.

The Cay Building model needed to be 23" tall by 18" wide.  The main section was printed in PLA in three major sections and glued together.  Again the seams were made to be as hidden as possible. Since 3d printing is very precise the seams are barely noticeable. Several spotlights were installed in the lobby to make the shadows more dramatic.

Extreme Attention to Detail

The 3 models were then installed in the Buckhead lobby. The Alpharetta city site was assembled on site to insure that nothing was damaged during the move. They were attached to the wall and the shelf.
